Some individuals may not respond to this type of treatment for bleeding hemorrhoid. For those people, there are various surgical options for bleeding hemorrhoid treatment.

To remove hemorrhoids surgically a procedure called a hemorrhoidectomy is performed. The patient is normally given a local anesthesia, although sometimes the procedure requires general anesthesia . The physician creates an incision around the anus and cuts away the hemorrhoids. This is usually done on an out-patient basis.

Although the procedure may relieve the pain, bleeding, swelling, itching and bleeding from the hemorrhoids it is important to understand that this type of bleeding hemorrhoid treatment may require stitches. Since this area is quite sensitive, the stitches will bring a pain and discomfort of their own.

The following are less invasive options of treatment for bleeding hemorrhoids sufferers:

Laser therapy is less invasive although more expensive and the laser beam is used to burn away hemorrhoid tissue.
Sclerotherapy is a procedure in which a chemical solution is injected to cut off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid which will shrink and eventually destroy it.
In Rubber band ligation, a small rubber band or two are placed at the base of the hemorrhoid to stop the blood supply and destroy the hemorrhoid.

Prolapse Hemorrhoid Treatment is a procedure in which a stapler type of instrument is used to reposition the prolapsed hemorrhoid and cut off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid. This will take the prolapsed hemorrhoids and move them higher into the anus where fewer nerve endings exist which reduces pain.

Although PHH and other less invasive bleeding hemorrhoid treatment options may result in less pain during healing, it may still be necessary for a hemorrhoidectomy to resolve bleeding hemorrhoids for a longer period of time.

Once diagnosed, the treatment for bleeding hemorrhoids varies depending on the severity.
Most times, external bleeding hemorrhoids treatment begins at home by first relieving and reducing symptoms that can be bothersome. Normally, (but by no means always!) small internal bleeding hemorrhoids will not need treatment other than pain relief tablets. Avoid taking aspiring though. Asprin and other anti-inflammatory drugs may cause more bleeding from hemorrhoids. Choose instead acetaminophen such as Tylenol. For information on bleeding internal hemorrhoids treatment please see our bleeding internal hemorrhoids section.

Again, if you’re looking for at home bleeding hemorrhoid treatment options it is necessary that you first are sure the bleeding is from hemorroids and that it is not severe enough to warrant medical intervention.

To begin, treatment depends on where the hemorrhoids are located and why types of symptoms they’re causing and their severity. Often simple conservative options will help the natural healing process along and will clear up the problem.

Keeping the anal area clean and dry is important when starting hemorrhoids bleeding treatment. When wiping, use damp tissue with a mild soap and dab gently rather than actually wiping.

Once dry, use powder to absorb moisture and help to keep the area free of moisture.

The less rubbing, wiping and friction on the affected area, the quicker the healing will be.

Because bleeding hemorrhoids are often a result of pressure and straining during bowel movements, it’s important to refrain from that behavior so the swelling can subside.

Eat a high fiber diet that includes roughage and bran. Fiber and bran will retain water in the stool which will help to produce soft, bulkier stools that will be passed without straining. Want to eat healthier? Get yourself a juicer machine and use it!

Choose bulking agents like Fibercon, Citrucel, Metamucil which are available in both grocery stores and drug stores.

Ice packs may help to reduce the swelling.

To ease the symptoms of pain and tenderness from bleeding hemorrhoids, run a hot bath or sitz bath (water high enough to cover the area) and soak for 15 minutes a few times daily. This will help bring heat and pain relief as well as promote healing. To aid in making sitz baths easier, there are product such as inflatable toilet sitz baths that can be filled and emptied with ease rather than having to get into the tub throughout the day.

Also, there are many over-the-counter medications that may be purchased such as hydrocortisone creams. These may help to reduce swelling, pain and itching from external bleeding hemorrhoids.

Remember to check with your doctor if you are unsure of the source of rectal bleeding. Rectal bleeding can be a sign of a very serious condition.

Before we can discuss bleeding hemorrhoids, let’s first learn what hemorrhoids are.

In short, hemorrhoids are veins in the anal canal that become swollen.

To help with controlling bowel movements, the tissue inside the anus fills with blood. Often if there’s straining involved to move stool, the increase in pressure may cause the veins in the tissue to become swollen and to stretch.

When this happens it can lead to hemorrhoids. When the veins swell on the inside of the anal canal, the result is internal hemorrhoids. When the veins swell on the outer opening of the anus, they’re called, external hemorrhoids. It’s possible to have both internal and external hemorrhoids at once.

Once hemorrhoids occur, it’s also possible that they may become bleeding hemorrhoids.

What are bleeding hemroids?

Hemorrhoids bleeding is actually a common occurrence. For signs and symptoms of bleeding hemorrhoids, please see our bleeding hemorrhoids symptoms section.

While some hemorrhoids clear up on their own, there are other types that may become more serious. While it’s rare, some hemorrhoids may even need emergency surgery. These hemorrhiods are called strangulated hemorrhoids.

Bleeding internal hemorrhoids should be evaluated by a physician. Rectal bleeding can be a sign of very serious conditions so it’s important to be sure what the source of the bleeding is.

Also, once diagnosed, it’s sometimes necessary to involve medical intervention to stop bleeding hemorrhoids. There are several types of medical bleeding hemorrhoids treatment and your doctor will help you decide which one is best for your situation.

Usually, if you’re under the age of 50 and the bleeding is minimal and only occurs during bowel movements (bright red blood spotting on toilet paper) it’s okay to wait a week and attempt some home treatments before seeing your doctor. Our bleeding hemorrhoid treatment section will give you some of the more common at home treatments.

Again, only do this if you’re fairly positive the blood is being released from hemorrhoids.

If you’ve attempted some of the at-home bleeding hemorrhoids treatment options available and even if you are sure the source of bleeding is from hemorrhoids, if a week has passed and the bleeding has not subsided, please check with your physician. It may be necessary to have the hemorrhoids checked and graded and to get medical advice so that you can begin recommended bleeding hemorrhoid treatment.

Once the hemorrhoids have been repaired, and since lifestyle and some habits may have an effect on hemorrhoids, it’s important to try to make the changes that may help your prevent further problems. For advice on how to prevent hemorroids please read here for hemorrhoid prevention tips.
